The why
The beauty industry is a huge growth area in the North of England, worth millions of pounds. Yet traditionally events for both consumers and industry have been focused predominately in the south, with any northern offering focused solely on the north west, i.e. Manchester.
There are very few events that takes place in the Yorkshire region to celebrate the diversity, interest, innovation and passion for the beauty and skincare sector - until now!
Through our mission-led initiative, we aim to become the go-to voice and representation of Yorkshire in the beauty world.
This community will be a catalyst for change; inspiring and empowering individuals and businesses to embrace ethical and sustainable practices.
We will be unapologetic in our advocacy for a beauty industry that is more diverse, representative, and inclusive.
Why YORKSHIRE?
We love Yorkshire and are proud of our heritage, talent and passion when it comes to all things beauty. We know there is so much to be said, discussed, challenged and cheered - and This is Yorkshire Beauty is all about giving the people of Yorkshire the visibility and voice they deserve.
This is about representing the unrepresented in beauty.
Meet the founders
Dr Lubna Khan-Salim
I’m a Yorkshire based cosmetic surgeon with a passion for health, beauty and longevity. I wanted to create a flagship event in Yorkshire that would showcase and highlight the variety of talent, brands and diversity in the region. My mission with this first of its kind festival is to bring to the fore topics and issues that amplify conversations and education around beauty, health and skincare. Key themes include diversity, sustainability, representation and a core passion changing the narrative around ageing and women’s health for the positive.
Vicky Clapham
As a woman in her 40s, a business owner and a mum of two young children I appreciate only too well the changes that occur as we age - not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. Having the right people around you as you navigate these changes is essential. The This is Yorkshire Beauty movement in only a short space of time has created a warm, welcoming, informed space for women to feel empowered and supported and I’m incredibly proud to be part of that.
